Soft lenses

Soft contact lenses are made from gel-like plastics, allowing oxygen to pass through to the front surface of the eye. Tear fluid maintains the softness and flexibility of the lens making them more comfortable to wear. Since soft lenses contain water, they can become contaminated, and therefore it is essential to follow the correct cleaning procedures and to replace them routinely.

The latest advances in technology have led to developing new types of soft contact lenses made from Silicone Hydrogel; this material transmits several times more oxygen than standard soft lenses and resists dehydration. The lenses can be worn for longer periods whilst maintaining healthy eyes coupled with exceptional comfort.

Disposable lenses

Disposable lenses can be replaced every day, every 2 weeks, or every month. Regular replacement of soft lenses is known to increase the safety and comfort of wearing contact lenses. Currently disposable lenses are available for the correction of all common optical disorders including bifocal, varifocal and astigmatic prescriptions. Daily disposable lenses are the pinnacle of contact lens wear in terms of health and convenience but until very recently have only been available standard soft lens materials. We are therefore extremely pleased that a silicone hydrogel daily disposable has been introduced to give you the healthiest, most comfortable and convenient lens every to be produced.

Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP) lenses

These lenses are made from semi-rigid plastic materials, which allow oxygen to pass through to the surface of the eye, making them a healthy option for many wearers. These lenses float on your tears and there is some movement whilst blinking, it therefore takes slightly longer to get used them. However once settled these lenses prove to be very comfortable. RGP lenses are suitable for most prescriptions, but more so for patients, who have astigmatism, RGP lenses are easy to handle, clean and very durable.

Testimonials:

Recently had to change optician as my usual one was bought out by Vision Express. I used David Dowley in Acomb and was pleased to be treated with good old fashioned regard and attention. The eye care was flawless in my opinion, and all information that I needed, was presented in an un-rushed manner with due consideration. I give this top marks for my experience of an optician.

I moved to this optician and felt I’d been offered the best of care and attention. Courteous service, comfortable surroundings, and always feeling like I’d been attended to you by a highly experienced professional who spent time explaining, and had answers to all questions. Large chains of opticians work in a different way.
